Packing is finished, and everything is ready for a great holiday vacation. Oops, did you forget those legal documents?
Yes, preparing your legal documents is easy to put off, but if you make it part of this year’s holiday travel ritual, you will have tremendous peace of mind on your trip. You will be able to really enjoy your vacation knowing you have everything in place.
The holiday stress will be lowered once you decide to put off preparing your Will, Trust, Medical Power of Attorney, and Financial Power of Attorney. People often put off making a Will or a Power of Attorney but when they finally decide to prepare their documents, a great nagging burden is lifted.
Designating who will make your medical decisions, if you are unable to do so, is probably the most important document for everyone. Discussions between you and the person you designate as your agent on your Medical Power of Attorney need to be held prior to designation. You may want to bring this topic up with your loved ones when you visit to ensure they are willing to be your agent. It is an important
responsibility.
A financial Power of Attorney document
allows you to assign a person to be your agent with the authority to make your legal and financial decisions should you become incapacitated. This is also an extremely important role, and you must choose wisely.
